When The Going Gets Weird…

     … The weird turn Pro. So spoketh the man I named my son after. Hunter S. Thompson. Gonzo Journalist and flavored just slightly over the edge of the abyss. THE role-model of youth everywhere, or at least those growing up in the Dark Ages (also known as the 70’s). This mix is inspired by the Good Doctor, as he was affectionatley known. High School Dance

I have my good friend Donna to thank for being my muse for this mix. I went through high school in the early-mid 80’s. It was a weird time to be a teenager. The last vestiges of disco were almost gone, New Wave was big and Hair bands were on the uprise. My high school dances left something to be desired. I was just a goofy kid that really had no sense of timing when it came to dancing. I did have alot of fun, though. Requiem

     Most recently my friend Any Major Dude  did a series on all of the forms of Love. As I perused that series, it reminded me of my youth, and all that Love entailed. So I started thinking of the women from that time that had a major impact on my life, both good and bad. Our shared experiences make us who we are, for better or worse. I like to think that I came through that time on the upside. Todays mix is a tribute to then, a time when none of us really knows what we want. Requiem for a feeling long past its’ time…

Lux Interior, Dead at 62

Lux Interior

 

Lux Interior, lead singer of influential garage-punk act the Cramps, died Wednesday morning (February 4) due to an existing heart condition, according to a statement from the band’s publicist. He was 62.

Born Erick Lee Purkhiser, Interior started the Cramps in 1972 with guitarist Poison Ivy (born Kristy Wallace, later his wife) — whom, as legend has it, he picked up as a hitchhiker in California. By 1975, they had moved to New York, where they became an integral part of the burgeoning punk scene surrounding CBGBs.

Due to their imagery, obsession with kitsch and dogged dedication to touring — they wrapped up their latest jaunt across Europe and the U.S. this past November — the Cramps commanded a loyal fanbase, and even earned a spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, in the form of a shattered bass drum that Interior had shoved his head through.
