Go round in circles…

22 01 2009

I’m so happy it’s Thursday, my happy campers. I put together a mix for you that is heavy on making you think. I know, some of you don’t like to think when the tunes are flowing. I get that way sometimes myself. But this one will be awesome for the times of solitude that we all enjoy. It’s got some new and some old; and even a bit in-between. It’s bookended with Robyn Hitchcock, so that means it has to be good! Today, I present… Fade Into The Crowd.

Tracklist:

1. Robyn Hitchcock – Goodnight Oslo

2. Stephen Malkmus & Lee Ranaldo – Can’t Leave Her Behind (Bob Dylan)

3. The Yardbirds – Stroll On (from the 1966 film Blow Up)

Kate Bush

21 01 2009

Today, the soaring voice that I was truly in love with in 1978 (she’s not harsh on the eyes, either). Kate Bush – The Kick Inside. This album was released in 1978, with Kate at the tender age of 19. She was discovered by Pink Floyds own David Gilmour, who produced “The Man with the Child in his Eyes” and “The Saxophone Song”. She went on later to record Love and Anger with Gilmour. So, without further delay, I present the debut album from Kate Bush, The Kick Inside.

Melancholy Rapture is the latest mix from PunkRick Productions. It’s up… it’s down… it might even fall through the cracks, who knows? Rock On…

15 01 2009

Here at the home of Cheap Gas Music I thought I was just doing this blog to kind of keep track of my ever expanding musical selections. Lo and behold, I’ve received some recognition from another music blog that I visit frequently, http://fusion45.com/ . I wanted to post what was written.

“New to the FOF45 cadre of colleagues is Cheap Gas, who just launched back in October 2008. You’ll find a mix of the interesting and the bizarre, a combination of Cheap’s own mixes and props to others’ mixes and posts. I learned about a band called The Belmont Playboys through CG, though I had to jump over to Rock Is Dead to get the link. No worries there: Rock Is Dead a very cool place for music that “will scare your neighbors”.

As always, I give the proper credit for what is not of my own creation. Fusion 45 is a wonderful site that you really should check out. Eclectic to the sublime is just some of what I’ve found there.

So, many thanks go to Fusion 45 for being the first. Kudos to you!

Be sure to visit the links and if you like what you see/hear, let them know.

Ciao.

God be Merciful to Me, a Sinner

7 01 2009

Today we bring you The Belmont Playboys. This performance was recorded in Atlanta in December 1998 and it sounds like it was a great time for everyone there. This was the kind of music that Brian Setzer was playing with The Stray Cats back in the 80’s before he went in his new (old) swing jazz direction.

If this stuff doesn’t get you up out of your chair and dancing, or at least tapping your foot, there is something definately wrong with you. Go get some help fast!

1 WARM SOFT AND WILD
2.HILLBILLY DOLL
3.STRINGBUSTER
4.KING OF THE HILL
5.ONE AND ONLY
6.DARLENE
7.DON’T BUG ME

8.AARDVARK
